Grški mit o androginu pripoveduje o bitju, ki je bilo hkrati moški in in ženska, ki je imelo dve glavi, dvoje rok in nog. Po mnogih lastnostih so se približali bogovom, zato so se ti odločili, da jih razpolovijo na dvoje in jim s tem odvzamejo moč. Od takrat človek sam tava po svetu in išče svojo drugo polovico, s katero bo spet dosegel popolno stanje enosti. 

 * Beseda SPOL, ki jo uporabljamo za označevanje moških in ženskih oseb, izvira iz glagola RAZPOLOVITI.

 

 * Mednarodna beseda SEKS izvira iz latinske besede sexus (še prej secus), ta pa izvira iz glagola seco, secere, ki pomeni SEKATI, RAZDELITI NA DVE POLOVICI.
